Howell's Irish Dexters
The suitably-named town of Buena Vista rests at the base of the 14,000+ foot tall Collegiate Peaks of the Sawatch Range. The mountains, rivers and abundant big game not only attract outdoor enthusiasts, but ranchers and farmers as well because of the relatively mild winters compared with surrounding mountain communities. Butch Howell is one such rancher. He and his wife Karen have over 30 years of experience in raising livestock and now primarily breed Irish Dexter cattle, which are an ideal breed for small acreages. The animals are bred for their size and disposition and are kept for breeding stock or are put into natural beef and milk production. The Howell's placed 40 acres of their land into a conservation easement two years ago. In addition, they work in conjunction with brothers Terry and Jim Peadler, who have conserved 240 acres of their own land.
These Irish Dexters, carefully bred for quality, can be purchased directly from Butch and Karen Howell. For more information, visit their website at www.kheartdexters.homestead.com.
